The ABC's Big Ideas program looks at whether Queensland needs a Human Rights Act.
Queensland is considering the introduction of a Human Rights Act. Those in favour of proposal point to the state having no upper house of parliament to review government legislation, and a chequered history when it comes to protecting the rights of its citizens. Would a statutory human rights charter prevent incursions on individual rights?
Recorded at the Supreme Court of Queensland, Brisbane, 12th April 2016. Part of the 'Justice in Focus' series, presented by Caxton Legal Centre, in conjunction with the law schools of Griffith University, Queensland University of Technology and the University of Queensland.
